Biography:
Sarah Hansegard is a Phoenix-based abstract painter, printmaker, and photographer whose work explores the interplay of light, memory, and spiritual presence. Originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from Arizona State University, graduating magna cum laude. Her creative practice has since evolved into a deeply contemplative, process-driven approach rooted in stillness, faith, and a fascination with emotional space.
Since 2016, Hansegard has focused primarily on abstract painting, layering transparent washes of color over textured surfaces of graphite, charcoal, and pastel. Her compositions often explore duality—shadow and light, tension and release—as visual expressions of the unseen. Recently, her work has expanded to include olfactory elements, creating fragrance-based extensions of her paintings that translate atmosphere and color into scent.
She lives in Phoenix with her husband Matt and their three terriers.

Each commissioned painting is a one-of-a-kind collaboration—created especially for your space, energy, and story. I work in the spirit of past pieces you may be drawn to, but each work is uniquely imagined and never replicated.
Please allow a minimum of 2 months for a new piece. Heavily layered works, especially those incorporating mixed media and sacred geometry, may require 4–5 months depending on scale and complexity.
Once a direction is agreed upon, I work independently, trusting in an intuitive process grounded in balance, texture, and light.
